Life After Superstorm “Sandy” goes on in the LBI Region. Things are looking better as the days go on. Right after the storm it was hard to look at all the piles of debris on the streets and parking lots of the area. Contractor and volunteers helping residents and businesses clean up from storm damage and putting back some sense of a new life into the region. As our Governor Chris Christie stated at a town meeting in Manahawkin, we can’t expect that the shore will be the same this summer as it was last summer. But that shouldn’t stop us from working to make it better. Some state they will walk away and leave the island and go else where. There not true locals or islanders. We say we will not let a little wind and water take away our livelihood. We will all work together and rebuild. Families helping families. Friends helping friends. Neighbors helping neighbors. Jersey-ns helping Jersey-ns. Most of the vultures and sharks have left the area since the hope of a big payoff was delayed by the Feds. That doesn’t mean that we can let our guard down. Be careful of the contractors you hire. Check their Licenses and references. Get estimates and contracts in writing and check and read them thoroughly. Be leery of contractors who ask for more than one third down payment to start. Many people are having difficulty in getting payments from their insurance companies. If you think they are not treating you fairly, call the office of the State Insurance Commissioner for help or advice.
Its going to take some time and a lot of hard work, but that shouldn’t keep us from restoring our LBI Region to the jewel of the Jersey coast and the heart of our state. Now lets all get to work! We will have a Life After Superstorm “Sandy”..
