What is Home Watch?
Home Watch is a periodic visual inspection of your home or property, looking for obvious issues.
Meeting your needs are what is important to us. Our choice is to first meet with you in your home and do a walk-through with you to show you what we do and find out what you want done. There are times that this is not possible, and we understand that. But it is important that you know who we are and what we can do for you.
We will inspect your home, make recommendations, and give you an estimate of costs. Be aware that we need to see your home first and what your needs are before we can give you an estimate. It is not fair to you to just come up with a cost over the phone, not knowing exactly what will be necessary to keep your home secure. We do recommend that your home be checked at least once a week to ensure it is being protected. Things can happen over a month’s time that can cause great damage if not checked regularly. For instance, we could come on a Tuesday and everything looks fine, but the next day a pipe could break and for the next fours weeks, that leak could get worse.
A typical weekly check of your home would include:
Exterior check: Signs of break-in or intrusion or vandalism. Insect or animal damage. Weather-related issues. Other safety or maintenance issues. We check the fence all along the perimeter of the property and check the exterior of sheds, hot tub, pool, walkways and docks. Make sure all windows, screens and gutters are in place. Make sure the driveway and walkways have no signs of unwanted guests on your property. We will check the meters outside and make sure they are running properly and record when necessary. We will take pictures to send to you, if necessary.
Interior: A systematic floor-to-ceiling visual inspection of every room and level of the residence, looking for obvious issues. We check window locks and doors. We check and record heat or A/C temperature. Check for plumbing leaks or any signs of mold or infestation from animals or insects. Check for signs of power outages. When we go to enter your home, we will knock first in case you are there; if you are there, we do not want to intrude or scare you. We will check the thermostat for temperature. Check to make sure all windows and doors are locked. You would be surprised how many times people forget to lock up everything. We will inspect all pipes for leaks and flush the toilets if the water is on. We will also run the water to check and make sure there are no problems. We will not be intrusive, but will look in closets to make sure they are secure also. Check the fridge and pantry for signs of intrusion of unwanted guests of the insect or rodent kind. We will take pictures to send to you, if necessary.
If there are problems anywhere, we will consult with you right away, unless there is an emergency. In that case, we will contact authorities first and then will contact you.
Home Watch IT: We use software for the home watch industry, which we use with a smart phone or tablet. We will use the checklist to make sure we do not forget anything, and answer the questions it asks. Once back in the office, we will send the report to your email so that you know we have been there, along with anything that we found. If we do find anything that needs your attention, we will get in touch with you right away.
